Cinquain Series: Darkness and Silence of Night Storms

blinding fire-bolt
and its afterimage
burned on retina's negative,

the lightning flash
and the crash of thunder,
between jet's speed and sonic boom

Halloween Is Afoot!

Let's celebrate this fete
To death and the departed
Where the surreal
Takes anarchy out on the town,
Making mischief in every dark corner.
What other night can you see
Plastic skeletons with glowing eyes
Hang from trees on nearly every corner?
Or watch the witches flying low on broomsticks
Lift warty noses to bite into caramel apples,
While red demons dance across lawns
Hand-in-hand with dimpled fairies
and push doorbells with pitchforks.
You can hear them giving shy “thank yous,”
After candy is thrown into
Their gunny sacks of souls.
